What is Photovoltaics (PV)?
A photovoltaic system is an electrical system that uses solar energy to produce electricity by the photovoltaic effect.It consists of a photovoltaic module, that is a device able to convert solar energy directly into electrical energy and is used as a current generator of the photovoltaic system.
Technically, the photovoltaic effect occurs when an electron in the valence band of a material (generally a semiconductor) is promoted to the conduction band due to the absorption of one sufficiently energetic photon (quantum of electromagnetic radiation) incident on the material.
